Ive never been very lucky. I don’t win contests. I don’t win on scratch offs. I fall quite a bit, and my hair looks great only on the days I have nowhere to go.

But I lucked out when this family won my referral giveaway. Beautiful family. Sweet little girl. And an adorable baby bump. This family of three and a half was all I could have asked for! We headed out on quite possibly the most hot and humid day in Texas this summer. We picked the lowest point in Navasota (as in NO breezze) to take pics. Hey, I told you …I’m not very lucky! So we got a little sweaty..ok a lot sweaty…and we got a little red in the face. But we got some great pictures. I had a hard time choosing which to post. They all scream love and connection and unity. They all scream FAMILY!

Watch for a post about my new referral program! Its all kinds of great.

they have the prettiest dogs! here is one…. adorable right?

I just sat in the hospital bed and watched him sleep. I thought to myself, nobody will ever mistake Sam for a girl. He just looks like a boy. He has boy hair. That was my favorite thing. He has boy hair. To this day, only once has a stranger asked me, “how old is she?” and it was my own fault because he was wearing “tights”….sigh…My grandpa calls them “tights” and he says they are not meant for boys. But I’m here to tell you that babylegs are made for boys and Sam pulls them off quite well. So there!

Sometimes little newborn boys look like wrinkled old men. (and my love for wrinkled old man babies is just as great) But baby {b} reminds me of Samuel. He doesnt look like Sam…but he looks like a boy. He has boy hair.

He didnt even cry! Thats what I told my husband when I walked in the house. I was covered in sweat. My makeup was gone. Im sure my hair was a sight! It was so hot…but so worth it. Baby {c} didnt cry. Not once. He smiled a handful of times. He grunted here and there. He only wet my blankets once. Thats way below normal….

Photographing newborns is such a joy. I always feel like Im walking on clouds when I get done. They are just so squishy and perfect. They ***almost*** make me want another. almost.

Most of my childhood memories involve family. Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and pets. I grew up in an animal loving home. We always had some type of pet. Mostly dogs and outdoor cats. We even had a baby pig named Dexter. Most of our dogs were adopted or strays. I still have a soft heart when it comes to stray animals. I cant visit animal shelters because I will want to cart them all home and love on them. Currently, we have 4 dogs and 4ish cats. I say ish because some of them come and go…but we still love them. Any pets that my siblings, parents, and cousins have are a part of my family as well. We talk about them as if they are children. Yep…we are those kind of people.

My cousin was kind enough to bring her giant baby over to the house for some photography fun. I was so excited to meet Keke…because she is my cousins baby…and that makes her family.

I promised you a bit more of little Miss {j}. When her Grandmother asked me to photograph her grandbaby, she said she wanted pictures taken in her baptismal gown. Of course, I was so excited. Something about a sweet baby in a white gown…

I expected her gown to be lovely…but I had no idea just how beautiful it would be…

On the day Miss {j} was baptized, she wore pieces of her mama’s wedding gown…specially made into a baptism gown by her grandma. My pictures dont do it justice. Its beautiful. Perfect.

Grandma also made Miss {j} the most adorable Easter dress. When I was little my Granny Kmiec had a little doll that she called Nora. Nora always had pretty dresses and panty hose on. I always felt like I was holding a real baby when I played with Nora. When I saw Miss {j} in this dress, I thought of Nora. I thought of dressing up in Granny’s night gowns and eating black eye peas. I thought of panny cakes and wedding mints. Funny how something so simple can flood you with memories.
Here she is…looking like a perfect little doll.

You know, sometimes I say things and then I think back and wonder why exactly I said that. For example, this little darling lost her balance and I called out to her whoa pete!I mean, who says that? I don’t doubt that I provide some type of entertainment to my clients…well the parents at least….I’m pretty sure the kids just think I am insane.

We took these pictures on a HOT day. Outside. Sweating. But Miss {j} was a trooper. She was such a cutie! I could barely stand it sometimes because she was fluttering those long lashes and twisting her adorable little lips! Eek! So cute!

More to come from this session tomorrow!

{s} family | navasota photographer

They all jumped out of the car. Four little girls with bright blonde hair.

Flashback.

Growing up, my mom would get confused. “Brandi!, Kris…, I mean ALLEN“……….and 3 blonde headed kids came running. I use to laugh at her. We thought she was silly or crazy…or both….

Now, I have 3 kids of my own. Only one is blonde…for now… but I get them mixed up at least three times a day.

So, the first thing I told the {s} kids was that I would probably not be able to remember their names. And even if I did, Id call them by their sister’s name. At least three times.

So we came up with a system. I’d call them 1, 2, 3, and 4. They learned their number…I tried to…but Im sure I called 3 by 4 or 2 by 1. Who knows. Somehow, we figured it all out and what we got was a set of pictures…telling their family story. I like this story.

casting call | navasota photographer

Posted on June 21, 2010

Its that time again! My ideas are flowing!

I am searching for the following:

One grandma and her grandchild

One grandpa and his grandchild

One grandma and grandpa with their grandchild

(any or all may be a great-grandchild..that is fine)

Please note that I said grand CHILD. I do not want multiple children.

Grandma or Grandpa must be able to participate in an outdoor session. It will be hot! But it will be a short session. I will do my best to schedule it during the coolest time of daylight. I am after 2 poses from each session. So, we should be able to accomplish that within just a few minutes.

Please email me if you are interested in being a model for {btp}

As always, a model session includes one free 8X10 and the option to purchase additional prints if desired.
