Around here, we do our best to be as “green” as we can be. There are so many things you can do to make a big difference. I have to say…this is the most creative way I have ever come across though. A new friend of mine is a crochet genius. I knew this….but I was still blown away when I saw these bags she made. Lynnette sent over a large bag of her homemade goodies for me to photograph. When I pulled these 2 bags out…I was amazed! These beautiful bags are made from plastic grocery bags! As in…she cut them up and use the plastic to crochet these beautiful bags!!! Take a look! Growing up, I always dreamed of being a cheerleader. Eight grade came, dream comes true. And of course, it was fun and I loved it. So, when my friend Sarah suggested I try out for the drill team, I wasnt so sure…but I thought…oh….what the heck! I like to dance! That first day of tryouts changed it all. I fell in love. I spent three wonderful years as a member of the Navasota Diamonettes. I made friendships that have lasted over the years. The memories made and lessons learned will stick by me for the rest of my life.

Now, over a decade later…omg…a new team is shaping. Good luck girls! It wont be easy, but it will be worth it! Point your toes and smile that Diamonette smile!

We use to fight over who had to sleep by the fire place. It whistled and was sort of scary. Grandma would make pancakes and colorful oatmeal for breakfast. We chose so many colors, it usually ended up looking like brown mush. We’d spend the whole week together so we could go to vacation bible school. We’d sit by the fire with our shirts pulled up on our backs. Then run around and have Mawma and Pawpa feel how hot our backs were. We were cousins. I was so blessed to grow up with my cousins.

I loved photographing these girls. You could see the connection between the three. I couldnt get enough of the sweet looks!

We were standing outside my Dad’s house. I was just sitting on the porch looking at Mom’s flowers. I glanced up and couldnt help but laugh. My daddy, his friend Eddie, and his other friend Kirk were all in a circle. Jr. High style. Texting. Each other? Who knows… I never thought I’d see the day that my daddy would know how to send a text message. Im pretty sure he uses his phone more than I use mine. He does have some of the lingo down. But he cant spell. At all. I love trying to decipher his messages. Its like code. Once, I was going through his address book. I came across the name “Waylo”….what kind of name is that? Turns out, Waylo is code for Abuelo. Everyone in my family calls my father in law Abuelo because they cant say his name. LOL. I cant make fun of them because I cant say it either. But remember, if we cant say his name….we cant say “Abuelo” correctly either…it kind of comes out….well…like Waylo.

I snagged a couple pics of our sweet Waylo with his two youngest grandsons.

I think Sam is saying “Dont tell me what to do!”…Allen style.

Where has the year gone? I remember the days leading up to my due date. I was a huge. I was miserable. I wanted him born NOW! And then he was here. Perfect and adorable and all mine. There is a magic between a mama and her son. I cant really put it into words, but its there. This year has been so wonderful. Everything he does melts my heart. My Samuel is the sweetest little guy. Of course, each new day brings so much happiness, but I found myself wishing for more time before he turned one. Funny that I was praying for time to pass quickly that last month of pregnancy…and wishing for it to slow down during his 11th month. His birthday has come and gone…and you know…he may be one…but he is still my baby boy.

When I was a child, one of my favorite places to go was my Granny Kmiec’s house in Brenham. As a toddler, I would beg my Grandma to take me to “Brum” to see “Granny Mich“…I know..how cute? While we were there I would play with her doll named Nora. I would sneak wedding mints from the glass dish in the dining room. (and get sick on the way home because I ate WAY more than normal people do) And I would flip through her calendar and look at the stickers. Each person in our family had a sticker on the box marking their birthday. If you are not a part of my Kmiec family, this may not seem like a big deal to you. We have a pretty good size family…so the calendar was full! It smelled good too. Scratch and sniff

My calendar doesn’t smell good….but its been pretty jam packed lately. With September quickly approaching, I need to make this announcement now. As of September 1, 2010, I will only be booking 1 session per week. So please, if you need a specific month/day/week/whatever, get on the calendar as soon as you can! Why am I doing this? Ill give you 3 reasons. Briana, Avah, and Samuel. No really, we are a homeschooling family, and our school year starts the first of September. In order for me to provide you with a reasonable turnaround, and to maintain my sanity….I have to do this.

This is very important to anyone wanting newborn portraits. Please schedule your session BEFORE the baby is born. We can use your due date. This way I KNOW I need to leave some flex time in my schedule for your new bundle of joy!

Don’t forget that the holidays will be here before you know it! If you want family pictures taken for your holiday cards or for Christmas gifts (pictures really are the best gift ya know!) please think ahead and get on the schedule. If you wait until the last minute I may not be able to fit you in.

So call or email me for fall sessions! Don’t forget that a 50% deposit is due at the time of booking.

And we all know we need a picture to juice up such a boring post…..

Ive never been very lucky. I don’t win contests. I don’t win on scratch offs. I fall quite a bit, and my hair looks great only on the days I have nowhere to go.

But I lucked out when this family won my referral giveaway. Beautiful family. Sweet little girl. And an adorable baby bump. This family of three and a half was all I could have asked for! We headed out on quite possibly the most hot and humid day in Texas this summer. We picked the lowest point in Navasota (as in NO breezze) to take pics. Hey, I told you …I’m not very lucky! So we got a little sweaty..ok a lot sweaty…and we got a little red in the face. But we got some great pictures. I had a hard time choosing which to post. They all scream love and connection and unity. They all scream FAMILY!

I just sat in the hospital bed and watched him sleep. I thought to myself, nobody will ever mistake Sam for a girl. He just looks like a boy. He has boy hair. That was my favorite thing. He has boy hair. To this day, only once has a stranger asked me, “how old is she?” and it was my own fault because he was wearing “tights”….sigh…My grandpa calls them “tights” and he says they are not meant for boys. But I’m here to tell you that babylegs are made for boys and Sam pulls them off quite well. So there!

Sometimes little newborn boys look like wrinkled old men. (and my love for wrinkled old man babies is just as great) But baby {b} reminds me of Samuel. He doesnt look like Sam…but he looks like a boy. He has boy hair.

He didnt even cry! Thats what I told my husband when I walked in the house. I was covered in sweat. My makeup was gone. Im sure my hair was a sight! It was so hot…but so worth it. Baby {c} didnt cry. Not once. He smiled a handful of times. He grunted here and there. He only wet my blankets once. Thats way below normal….

Photographing newborns is such a joy. I always feel like Im walking on clouds when I get done. They are just so squishy and perfect. They ***almost*** make me want another. almost.
